Required courses

  • INF 507 Survey of Information Science/Services: An overview of information science with a focus on the importance of understanding end-user and organizational needs.
  • INF 631 Evolution of the Telecommunications Infrastructure: Historical overview of the evolution of national and global telecommunications infrastructure, and a survey of trends in products, services and industry structures.
  • INF 537 Organizational Communication: Communication within organizations, including the circulation of information within organizations, complications of difference across organizational cultures, information bottlenecks, the importance of teamwork, and problems associated with rapid change.
  • INF 564 Information Architecture and Management: The principles and systems of information organization, including topics such as knowledge management and competitive intelligence.
  • INF 565 Information Systems Analysis and Design: Understanding end-user and organizational needs. System development is segmented into stages of "needs assessment, system design, system implementation and new system promotion." Both hard and soft competencies crucial at each stage of development are presented and analyzed.
  • INF 566 Technology Assessment and Systems Evaluation: Analysis and evaluation of information systems and projects to meet the needs of users and organizations. Includes data gathering and analysis techniques, research methods, presentation methods, and feasibility analysis. Students will apply the content of this course to develop a working draft of a "Capstone Project" proposal.
  • INF 597 Capstone Project and Seminar: The major portion of this course is a student capstone project representing the culmination of their work in the program. Many class sessions will revolve around proposing, implementing and presenting the capstone project. Class sessions are also devoted to discussion of trends, issues and notable projects that are topical during the semester the course is offered.
  • INF 637 Communication Technologies and Public Policy: Overview of public and private sector policy trends and legal issues.

In addition, the following courses, while not required, are encouraged:

  • INF 598 Directed Study: Offers an opportunity for students to explore a topic of special interest under the supervision of a faculty member.
  • INF 624 Internship: Offers an opportunity for students to work on information-related projects within organizations.
